Carpooling with Ciclogreen: an app that rewards your energy savings
Carpooling to get to work, make a regular journey or travel with others helps make use of the seats in one vehicle. With Ciclogreen, you can also log those journeys and access financial incentives through CicloBono, subject to the programme terms.
If you are looking for a carpooling app to earn money, it helps to understand how journeys are logged, what balance you can build up and when you can redeem it. Here we explain the differences.
How does the Ciclogreen carpooling app work?
Carpooling means that several people travel together in the same vehicle. It can be a daily commute between home and work or a one-off trip to another destination.
Ciclogreen lets you log carpooling journeys through its app. The driver generates a QR code for passengers to scan when they get in and out.
Carpooling to get to work or another destination can become a habit that combines good company, making better use of a vehicle, and financial incentives for eligible journeys.
What is CicloBono and how does it work?
The CicloBono is Ciclogreen’s incentive linked to the energy savings that eligible shared journeys can generate. These savings are processed through the Energy Savings Certificate (CAE) system.
To participate, you must activate your CicloBono, complete the requested checks, and record your journeys following the instructions in the app. The same trip cannot be recorded on multiple platforms to generate CAEs.
Where can I read reviews about Ciclogreen and its payments?
Before choosing a carpooling app, it is useful to learn about other people’s experiences and understand the terms of its financial incentives.
On our reviews and payments page we bring together public reviews, including criticism, and answers about pending balances. Other users’ experiences provide context, but do not guarantee the same redemption time for every journey.
What financial incentive do I get for carpooling with Ciclogreen?
At Ciclogreen, the CicloBono financial incentive builds up as a balance that you can redeem once the Ministry certifies the journeys. It is not an immediate payment when each trip ends.
The financial incentive for the energy savings generated is €0.02 per kilometre for both drivers and passengers. For example, logging 30 shared kilometres a day for 20 days would mean a potential balance of €12, provided those journeys meet the requirements. This does not mean the amount is available to redeem straight away.
When can I redeem my pending CicloBono balance?
Logging a journey and having the generated balance available are two different stages. The balance for your journeys may show as pending certification while checks, issuance and sale of the CAE are completed.
The process can take several months. There is no confirmed redemption date for each journey.
When the amount appears as available, you can request redemption if you reach the €10 minimum and meet the applicable terms. You can find more information in Ciclogreen reviews and answers about payments.
Can I carpool for trips or to get to work?
Carpooling can fit into a daily routine or a one-off journey.
Carpooling and receiving a financial incentive are related but separate matters: the driver and passengers arrange the journey, while CicloBono depends on trip registration and the programme terms.
Read the CicloBono FAQs to prepare your first journey and learn about the requirements before you start.
How do I prepare and record my first shared journey?
To log your trip in Ciclogreen, you can create a regular routine if you carpool regularly or log a one-off trip. For a one-off trip, tap “Start” in the app to generate the QR code, then follow the instructions to log the shared journey.
